We recognise that dental implants are a significant investment in your oral health, so we can also support you with easy payment plans to help spread the cost of treatment. Please note that dental implants are not available on the NHS.
The dental implant procedure explained
Every dental implant journey starts with a consultation to learn more about you and your goals. We will take CT scans and X-rays to get a better picture of your mouth and oral health. These images help us to determine if you are a suitable candidate for implants or if an alternative treatment should be sought. During your consultation, you’ll have a chance to ask questions about the procedure and aftercare.
If you decide to go ahead with treatment, we will schedule your first procedure. This will either be extractions to remove your remaining natural teeth or the first dental implant placement. We place the implant in your jawbone and then allow this to heal and fuse to the bone. This is a process known as osseointegration. We can fit a temporary bridge or denture to wear during this time.
Once healed, we will begin the second procedure, placing the abutment. This sits above the gum line and provides an anchor between the implant and the restoration. Once healed we can place the final crown, bridge or denture as required. Multiple implants will be required if you are replacing dentures with dental implants.
Dental Implant Frequently Asked Questions
How can we help?
If you have lost some or all of your natural teeth and want a natural-looking and permanent solution to missing teeth, we would recommend dental implants. This offers a solution that will look, feel and function like your natural teeth. It can also replace a full arch of teeth.
You should have good overall oral health and no signs of gum disease. It’s also important that you don’t smoke, as this can increase the risk of implant failure. And finally, you should also make sure you are able to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your dentist. If you think you might struggle, speak to us about alternative treatment options.
This is a permanent restoration and the implant part is designed to last a lifetime with the right care. The dental restoration such as the crown, bridge or denture may need to be replaced or repaired after around 10 years due to normal wear and tear.
The procedure takes place over multiple visits, and the entire treatment plan could take 3-6 months from start to finish. There are certain conditions that could make this take even longer, such as the need for extractions or a bone graft. Same Day Implants could be an option, and this would allow us to use 4-6 longer implants which are able to support a load-bearing prosthesis on the same day.
