How do dental implants work?

A dental implant is a fixed solution for one or more missing teeth. It is a titanium post surgically placed into your jaw bone. Once placed a crown, bridge or denture is fitted on top, these can be made to look and feel just like natural teeth. We will carefully match the colour of your crown to your natural teeth, so no one will ever need to know you’ve had this dental restoration treatment.

For individual missing teeth a single titanium implant is placed into the jaw, as the replacement root. This procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic. Once the implant has healed an abutment is attached providing support for your final crowns. If you have all your teeth missing in the upper, lower or both regions then multiple dental implants may be used to support a denture or bridge.

How can we help?

No, dental implants are not available on the NHS. This is private treatment, but we offer flexible payment plans to help make treatment more accessible and affordable.

Most people who have lost teeth due to injury, disease or decay are suitable candidates for dental implants. The best way to determine if you are a good candidate is to consult with our implant dentist.

The implant should last a lifetime with the correct care, but the restoration may need to be repaired or replaced after around 10 years.

You will be numbed throughout the treatment, so you won’t feel any discomfort or pain. It is no more painful than a tooth extraction. After the treatment, you may have some discomfort, but this will be easily managed with over the counter pain medication such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.

  • I am so pleased I came across this dentist on the nhs find a dentist app to be honest what drew me to this practice was the parking situation but that has become insignificant with the treatment I have received from this practice, from my initial consultation to the two treatments I needed I have experienced fabulous treatment. The staff are friendly, the 3 dentists I saw explained everything that was needed and didn’t make me feel pressured into making a decision. I am not sure how they do it they are so efficient that I haven’t had to wait more than a minute or so past my appointment time to be seen my tooth extraction was booked for 8am and I was walking out of the surgery with 1 less tooth at 8.10am but didn’t feel rushed at all. I will highly recommend this dentist surgery to people I know or who need an nhs one.
